Because while you probably won’t be strapping on a fanny pack that looks like a big hairy belly (please send pics if you do), the reason behind it is real:
Pickpockets are pros—and your everyday purse just isn’t going to cut it on vacation.
When you’re wandering through a market in Lisbon, hopping the metro in Paris, or sipping espresso in Rome, it only takes a second of distraction for someone to make off with your valuables.
And no one wants to spend day one of their dream trip canceling credit cards.

🔐 6 Travel Safety Tips Every Woman Over 40 Should Know
1. Use an Anti-Theft Crossbody Bag
My top go-to brands? Wander+, Baggallini, and Travelon.
These bags are designed with travel in mind—think slash-proof straps, locking zippers, RFID-blocking pockets, and thoughtful layouts that keep your essentials secure and organized (and yet, still stylish.) I DO love the phone lanyard/wallet combos!
2. Keep Your Bag in Front of You
Not on your back. Not hanging on the back of a chair. Not dangling off your suitcase.
Keep it where you can see it—always. Loop the strap around your leg if you’re seated in a café or waiting at a station if you're not using a crossbody.
3. Minimize What You Carry
Leave your full wallet, every credit card, and grandma’s jewelry at home.
Take only what you need for the day and keep the rest in your hotel safe.
Simple = safe.
4. Use Tap-to-Pay Whenever Possible
Many locations across Europe and beyond accept tap-to-pay cards and mobile wallets.
This lets you pay without pulling out a physical card—no fumbling, no flashing, just quick, secure transactions that keep your valuables out of sight.
5. Stay Alert in Crowded Areas
Train stations, escalators, markets, and popular tourist spots are pickpocket favorites. You don’t need to be paranoid, just present.
A little awareness goes a long way.
6. Never Leave Your Bag Behind
Even if it’s just to snap a quick photo or grab a gelato—don’t set it down and walk away.
Loop it around your arm or leg, or keep it in your lap. Better safe than… well, you know.
